 <p> </p><p>Afia Asamoah has built her career at the intersection of technol
 ogy and health. She joined Google as the company’s first healthcare lawyer\
 , advising teams developing medical software and AI. Her work included nego
 tiating Google’s first patent-licensing agreement with Novartis\, helping t
 o form Verily Life Sciences\, and supporting Verily financing rounds of $80
 0 million and $1 billion.</p><p> </p><p>After nearly eight years in senior 
 health roles at Google\, most recently as Head of Legal for the Google Heal
 th business unit\, Afia co-founded Waymark\, a health technology start-up t
 hat uses proprietary technology and community-based teams to improve care d
 elivery to people with Medicaid benefits.</p><p> </p><p>Afia is recognized 
 as a leader and digital health innovator. Prior to joining Google\, from 20
 09-2011\, Afia served as Special Assistant in the U.S. Food and Drug Admini
 stration Commissioner's Office\, where she created a new FDA center for reg
 ulating tobacco products and led initiatives to increase technology innovat
 ion by biotech and medical devices companies.</p><p> </p><p>Outside of work
 \, she serves as board director for Lucille Packard Stanford Children’s Hos
 pital\, chairing the audit committee\, as board director and vice chair of 
 the Public Health Institute\, and is on the governing board of the Carol Em
 mott Foundation. Afia received her J.D. from Harvard Law School\, her MPP f
 rom the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government\, and her BA from H
 arvard University.</p>
