regulate the outputs of generative AI systems\, forbidding\, for example\,
false or dangerous outputs. Some scholars have argued that such regulations
would raise dire First Amendment issues\, because the outputs of generativ
 e AI systems are someone’s First Amendment protected speech—AI creators\, u
sers\, or AIs themselves. Professor Salib argues that AI outputs are not an
yone’s protected speech\, and thus that AI regulations should face lower co
nstitutional hurdles than widely assumed.</p><p><strong>Free lunch will be
 provided.</strong></p><p><strong>About the Speaker</strong></p><p>Professor
Peter N. Salib is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Houst
on Law Center and Associated Faculty in Public Affairs. He also serves as L
aw and Policy Advisor to the Center for AI Safety in San Francisco and is c
o-Director of the Center for Law & AI Risk. His research applies substantiv
e constitutional doctrine and economic analysis to questions of AI governan
ce.</p><p>Professor Salib’s scholarship has been published in\, among other
s\, the University of Chicago Law Review\, Virginia Law Review\, Michigan L
aw Review\, Northwestern University Law Review\, Texas Law Review\, and Was
hington University Law Review. Prior to joining the University of Houston L
aw Center\, Professor Salib was a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer on Law at Ha
rvard Law School. Before that\, he practiced law at Sidley Austin LLP and s
erved as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Frank H. Easterbrook.</p>
