The “Consensual Nature” of Arbitration in International Sports Disputes: Perspectives and Challenges in an Ever-Changing Sports World

April 6, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Please join HIALSA for a discussion with Dr. Despina Mavromati, Head of Research and Mediation at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Dr. Mavromati will discuss the main procedural and substantive particularities of the CAS arbitration system compared to commercial arbitration and offer an overview of the mechanics of the Ad Hoc Divisions at the Olympic Games. She will focus on issues of jurisdiction (i.e. the arbitration clauses inserted in the Rules/Statutes of International Federations) and discuss how this can be reconciled with the “consensual nature” of arbitration.
