ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Richard Clements is an Assistant Professor in International Law at Tilburg University, in the Department of Public Law and Governance (PLG), a Non-residential Fellow at the Institute for Global Law & Policy at Harvard Law School, and holds an associate fellowship of the UK Higher Education Academy. Richard obtained his Ph.D. in law from the University of Cambridge (Lauterpacht Centre for International law & Girton College) in January 2020, and holds an LL.M. cum laude in public international law from Leiden University and an LL.B. (honours) from Queen’s University Belfast. From 2017 to 2018, Richard served as Co-Editor in Chief of the Cambridge International Law Journal, and has interned at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

Richard’s expertise lies at the intersection of international law, international institutions, and management practices. His research covers the areas of public international law, international criminal law, the law of international organisations, socio-legal and critical theory, and Third World Approaches to International Law. His work has been published by leading journals including the Leiden Journal of International Law and the Journal of International Criminal Justice. Richard’s current research investigates management’s discursive effects vis-à-vis target populations such as ICC victims and how management as a body of techniques combine with law and institutions to make global justice govern atrocities and other global challenges.

ABOUT THE SERIES
This series is intended to provide an opportunity for visiting professors and fellows affiliated with HLS to present their research to interested HLS students. Invited speakers will give a presentation on what they are currently working on and would then be available to answer student questions. The events — which are open only to current HLS students, faculty, and staff — will be scheduled for 60 minutes and will be conducted via Zoom’s video meeting system. The events will not be recorded.

Convened by the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict and the HLS Comparative and International Law Program of Study.
