This collaborative seminar will introduce legal priorities research, a new research field inspired by Effective Altruism that studies how legal researchers can do the most good. Rather than just doing what feels right, legal priorities research aims at using evidence and careful reasoning to identify the most important, neglected, and tractable problems within legal research.
The seminar will consist of 6-8 sessions. At each session, a guest speaker will present a different cause area, including law & governance of artificial intelligence, animal welfare, environmental law & policy, and the possible mechanisms to protect future generations. After each presentation of roughly 15-30 minutes, we will have time for an open discussion. To make this even better, there will be free (vegan) dinner!
