Lawyers for Civil Rights Volunteer Training on RAFT (Residential Assistance for Families in Transition)

October 18 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Lawyers for Civil Rights has launched a pro bono initiative to connect Greater Boston residents who need help paying rent or other housing expenses with volunteers who can help complete an application for RAFT (Residential Assistance for Families in Transition).

Volunteers can help families at risk of losing their housing during the unfolding public health and economic crisis by assisting them with their RAFT applications through MetroHousing Boston.

HLS students and HLS staff volunteers would attend a 1-hour training and then commit to assisting at least one client with an application. This application process for one client could take 5 hours total, mostly over several telephone conversations verifying eligibility and gathering required documentation. Additionally, the volunteer needs to be available for approximately a month after the application is submitted to follow-up on any missing paperwork and confirm the application is accepted and processed.

Eligible for HLS pro bono credit. This event is a part of Advocacy at Work: Pro Bono Week 2021, sponsored by the Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs.

This is a training for volunteers. Those looking for legal help should see http://lawyersforcivilrights.org/gethelp.
