Improving Access to Justice through Online Dispute Resolution Design: An Australian Case Study

October 9 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

How can online dispute resolution (ODR) improve access to justice? How can we design and implement ODR systems that are citizen and court-friendly? Meet the innovative and interdisciplinary team of specialists across the legal and technology fields who spearheaded the 2018 Online Dispute Resolution Pilot Program for the Australian Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. The Harvard Dispute Systems Design Clinic is pleased to welcome Donald Speagle (HKS ’02), former Deputy Secretary, Civil Justice, Dept. of Justice and current Honorary Senior Fellow at The University of Melbourne; Diana Adorno, Global Head of Design – Technical Operations, ThoughtWorks, and Madeline Oldfield, former Program Director, VCAT ODR Pilot Program. They will discuss how they: identified the justice needs of citizens in Victoria State, designed an online system that would help meet those needs, and implemented and evaluated the program. Non-pizza lunch provided.
