The Harvard Negotiation Law Review is excited to host an all-star lineup of speakers for a symposium on using institutional design principles from dispute resolution and dispute systems design to “Design Equality” in the legal profession. Panelists will discuss academic research and real-world experiences about what works, what doesn’t, and steps we can take moving forward. The symposium will focus on how legal institutions can be adjusted to level the playing field, and on how individuals can act as allies and activists in pushing for those changes.

The event will proceed as follows:

12 pm – 1pm: Keynote Address by Craig Silliman, GC of Verizon

1 pm – 2 pm: Assessing Challenges: Identifying Hurdles to Equity
Featuring: Ronit Dinovitzer (University of Toronto; author of the “After the JD” study), Anne Weisberg (Women’s Initiative Director at Paul Weiss), and Alan Bryan (Assistant General Counsel at Walmart). Moderated by Paavani Garg!

2 pm – 2:15 pm – snacks!

2:15 pm – 3:15 pm: Implementing Change: “Nudging” The Legal Profession
Featuring: Laura Rees Acosta (Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Goodwin Proctor), Nathalie Pierce (Littler Mendleson Board of Directors and Diversity Co-Chair), and Paola Cecchi-Dimeglio (Chair of the Executive Leadership Research Initiative for Women and Minorities Attorneys at HLS)

3:15 pm – 4: 15 pm: Designing Equity: Making Steps to Change
Featuring: Audrey Lee (Senior Mediator at Boston Law Collaborative), Melanie Heller (Vice President and General Manager of Bloomberg Law), and Linda Chanow (Executive Director of the Center for Women in Law at UT Law School); Renee Landers (Professor at Suffolk Law)

A reception will follow the last panel, from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm.
