Fellow’s Lecture :: Shah Waliullah Dehlavi and His Neglected Views on Islamic Law

April 17, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join a lunchtime lecture with Dr. Mubasher Hussain, a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard Law School’s Islamic Legal Studies Program: SHARIAsource and Head of the Sirah Unit at the Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University, in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Dr. Hussain will discuss an overlooked contributor to Islamic law, Shah Waliullah Dehlavi. One of the greatest thinkers produced by Muslim South Asia, he was a prolific writer of the 18th century who contributed to almost every branch of Islamic knowledge and inspired almost all religious circles through his thought-provoking ideas. In his research, Dr. Hussain revisits various sources in order to trace trajectories of the discourse that led to the silencing of the legal contributions of Waliullah´s writings.

Lunch will be served.
