R: (Department Drive) mapping

Use the following steps to map your R: drive:

    1. In Windows 7, Click on the Windows Icon and then click Computer; in Windows 10, Click on the Windows Icon, click File Explorer, and then click on This PC in then navigation window on the left.
    2. In Windows 7, on the menu bar, click on “Map network drive”; in Windows 10, on the menu bar, click on “Computer”, and then select “Map network drive” from the menu that appears.
    3. Select R: for the drive letter
      Note: If you have a fixed drive such as a DVD or a 2nd hard drive mapped to R:, simply choose another drive letter.
    4. Enter \\HLSDepts.law.harvard.edu\depts\<departmentshare> in the Folder field
      Note: <departmentshare> should be replaced with your department’s folder name
    5. “Reconnect at logon” – Select this option if you want this drive to be mapped each time you boot your computer.
      Note: You will not have access to this drive until you connect via Harvard’s VPN.
    6. Be sure there is a check in “Connect using different credentials”mapRdrive
    7. Click Finish
    8. A Windows security prompt will pop up:
      In the first box, enter HLS\<yourusername>
      <yourusername> should be replaced with your Harvard Law School username (this is what you would use when you initially log on to your computer)
      In the second box, enter your password. This is the password you use when you initially log on to your computer.RdriveSecurity
    9. Click OK. The mapped network drive will open.
      Note: Once mapped, you can also access the share if you double-click on the Computer icon on your desktop.

Mac OS X Operating System

R: (Department Drive) mounting

Use the following steps to mount your R: drive:

    1. On the Apple menu, click Go > Connect to server
    2. In the “Server Address: “field, enter the following information: cifs://hlsdepts.law.harvard.edu/<departmentshare>
      Note: <departmentshare> should be replaced with your department’s folder namemacrdrive
    3. Click the + button to add this server address to the list of your favorite servers
    4. Click Connect
    5. Enter your domain username and password
      Username: This should be entered as HLS\<yourusername> (this is the Harvard Law School domain username)
      Password: (this is the Harvard Law School domain password)                                  MacRDrive-security
    6. The window for your Home Drive will open
    7. Note: A mounted network drive should appear on the desktop

If it does not, follow these steps: Go to the Finder menu, select PreferencesUnder the General tab, check all the boxes under “Show these items on the desktop:” The mounted drive should now appear on your desktop
