HLS students can access mental health resources through Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) Counseling and Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Services at CAMHS are covered by your student health fee like most other HUHS medical care.

On Campus


  • No advance sign-up; just show up.
  • 15 to 20 minutes to chat anonymously with a clinician about you or a friend.

Free Drop-In Counseling

Pound Hall Clinic

  • No advance sign-up; just show up.
  • 20 minute confidential therapy session with Marla Allisan, JD, LICSW.
  • Beginning September 14, weekly in Pound Hall Clinic, on Fridays from 11:00 am – noon and 1:00-2:00 pm.
  • Free for all HLS students.

Free Short-Term Counseling

Pound Hall Clinic and the Smith Campus Center

  • Confidential, short-term therapy provided by licensed mental health counselors. Following a 30 minute consultation.
  • Request an initial phone or in-person consultation through the online patient portal and complete a brief questionnaire.
  • Appointments are available generally in 5 business day or less depending on a student’s schedule or preferences.
  • Free for all HLS students.

Long-Term Counseling

Off Campus

  • Call CAMHS at (617) 495-2042 to speak to Community Referral Coordinators Darryl Lemus, LMHC and Laura Huebner, LMHC, for help finding a provider.
  • If you have the Harvard Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) as your medical insurance:
    • Review mental health co-pays & deductibles in the benefits guide (p. 2).
      • For therapy with an in-network BCBS provider in the SHIP plan, the first 8 appointments will be free (without co-pay), and appointments 9-40 require a $35 co-pay. A co-pay is an out-of-pocket payment at each appointment.
    • Use Blue Cross Blue Shield (PPO/EPO network) search tool to compare providers and search by geographic location and/or by specialty.

  • Even if you do not have Harvard health insurance, you can still call Member Services at (617) 495-2008 for assistance navigating your mental health benefits.

If you or a friend are experiencing a mental health crisis, call HUHS Urgent Care:
