HLS Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students Office can assist with information and referrals regarding academic support. Please feel free to contact the Dean of Students Office, or 617-495-1880, should you have questions about available resources.

Graduate Student Learning Support (GSLS)

GSLS provides graduate students throughout the academic year with the opportunity to meet individually with a learning specialist for consultation about academic concerns. The GSLS program is for students who want support in the following areas:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing skills
  • Time management and organization
  • Test-taking strategies

Access to the HLS Exam Questions Archive can be found on the Registrar’s website.

Exam Preparation

Susannah Barton Tobin, Managing Director of the Climenko Fellowship Program and Assistant Dean for Academic Career Advising, is available to answer questions J.D.s may have about exam preparation. Please feel free to reach out to Dean Tobin,, to schedule an appointment.

LL.M.s with questions about exam preparation should direct them either to their LL.M. Advisors, or to Jeanne Tai, Assistant Dean for the Graduate Program and International Legal Studies, or Nancy Pinn, Director of Administration and Student Affairs, in the Graduate Program. There will also be a special session about exam preparation in November at which a faculty member will speak to LL.M.s about how to prepare for and answer HLS exam questions.

Library Resources

The mission of the Harvard Law School Library is to support the research and curricular needs of its faculty and students by providing a superb collection of legal materials and by offering the highest possible level of service. The HLS Library offers several resources to students including research assistance, paper consultations, and library tours.

Board of Student Advisers (BSA)

The Board of Student Advisers are peer advisers to members of the first year class and are a fantastic resource. Feel free to reach out to your individual BSA for support, advice, or information.

Graduate Program Fellows

LL.M. students benefit from academic and related advising provided by Graduate Program Fellows, almost all of whom are doctoral (S.J.D.) candidates who have completed the LL.M. at HLS in recent years. Feel free to reach out to various Fellows depending on your specific questions and interests.
