This course considers the basic themes of substantive criminal law, including criminal responsibility, the significance of act and intent, justification and excuse. General doctrinal principles of criminal law and illustrative crimes including homicide and sexual assault are the focus. The course also considers constitutional principles of criminal justice and provides an introduction to criminal adjudication including prosecutorial and sentencing discretion. Class participation is required.
