Alumni in Residence with Gwendolyn Renigar JD’96 of Steptoe

Gwen Renigar, a litigation partner in the Washington, DC, office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, became chair of the firm on January 1, 2022. Gwen previously served as Steptoe’s vice chair and as the firm’s general counsel, before becoming the first woman and youngest partner to lead the firm. In her client practice, Gwen represents law firms, lawyers, professionals, fiduciaries, healthcare industry participants, financial services providers, and retirement plan clients in complex litigation and class actions raising breach of fiduciary duty, commercial contract, and professional liability claims. In her chair role, Gwen manages the business affairs of the firm, sets the vision, and implements Steptoe’s strategic plan. During the pandemic, Gwen has focused on additional priorities for the firm and its clients, including business continuity and employee wellness. She understands the challenges and opportunities facing law firms, having advised them as clients on issues such as policy setting, professional responsibility, and talent management.
