The College Certification form is not the same as a transcript. In addition to providing confirmation of the conferral and conferral date of your degree, the College Certification form also requests information about possible academic or behavioral disciplinary actions. If no degree was conferred, please write N/A for the degree type and date. School officials who have access to academic and disciplinary records must complete each College Certification form. Each institution is different, but usually, a Dean of Students, Registrar, or Academic Advising office completes this form.
Harvard Law School requires that you submit a College Certification form for any post-secondary institution that you have attended, regardless of whether you received a degree from the institution. There are two exceptions to this policy:
- College Certifications are NOT required for any study abroad programs
- Certifications are NOT required for dual credit courses taken while in high school
Each College Certification form must be completed, signed, and sent to HLS by an official institutional source. A school official should submit the form to the J.D. Admissions Office by emailing it to 1L2B@law.harvard.edu. We cannot accept forms emailed or sent from the student. If email is not possible, we can receive this form via post at the address found here.
We will email you directly if we have questions or require additional information. Beginning in early May, you can visit your status checker to track your progress in relation to meeting this and other enrollment requirements.
If you are currently enrolled in an academic program, please wait to request College Certification forms until you have received official grades this semester. If you will not have a finalized transcript and College Certification available by the deadline, please let us know by emailing 1L2B@law.harvard.edu.
You will not be able to pick up your Harvard University ID Card, attend Orientation, or begin your coursework until all of your College Certification forms and official transcripts have been received, reviewed, and approved.
