Sponsored by Intel and Cap Gemini, the MIT Auto-ID center offers two full-time Summer 2017 Research Assistant opportunities at MIT to explore Legal approaches to democratize the Internet of Things (IoT). The project aims to develop an open standard and democratic solution expanding the functionalities and automated contracting capabilities of IoT devices such as Nest, Amazon Echo or Google Home. The RAs will join an interdisciplinary team, and work closely with the sponsors, to suggest possible legal approaches overcoming the legal hurdles identified. Part of the research will include an academic review of existing academic research and contracts related to relevant areas such as blockchain, IoT and conversational commerce. The project is led by Prof. Sanjay Sarma, Vice President of Open Learning, Brian Subirana, Director of the MIT Auto-ID Laboratory, and by Dick Cantwell, MIT Research Affiliate and Harvard Alumni. If interested, please send a cover letter and CV to subirana at mit.edu.
