Neil McGaraghan is a Clinical Instructor in the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program. Before joining HNMCP, Neil spent seventeen years as a civil litigator helping clients resolve complex disputes in federal and state courts, administrative hearings, arbitrations, and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings. His commercial practice included the financial services sector, consumer fraud, public procurement, trademark and trade secret disputes. Neil also handled civil rights matters as a cooperating attorney for the ACLU of Massachusetts, and served as habeas counsel for twelve men challenging their unlawful detention at the US Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Neil was a partner at Bingham McCutchen and then Morgan Lewis & Bockius. He left Morgan Lewis to launch the Boston office of Potomac Law Group in 2016.

Neil graduated from Brown University in 1991 with a B.A. in international relations, and graduated magna cum laude from U.C. Hastings College of the Law in 1999. He was a law clerk for U.S. District Judge William Schwarzer in California’s Northern District from 1999-2000. Before law school, Neil worked for the European Commission in Brussels, as an aide to US Senator Patrick Leahy, and as Government Relations Director for an international education and development nonprofit.
