Jan Hasselman, lead counsel for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their advocacy to stop the Dakota Access pipeline, will offer an overview of this complex and historic effort. He will discuss the Sioux Treaties and the rights they provided; the different kinds of claims that the Standing Rock brought in their litigation; and the broader meaning of this effort in light of the Trump administration’s reversal of the decision to deny permits for the pipeline to cross the MIssouri just upstream of the Standing Rock reservation. Time will be provided for questions and discussion.
