This talk focuses on the intersection of gender and Consumer Racial Profiling to examine the ways consumers of African descent, in particular Black women, ‘fight back’ against injustices unleashed upon them in retail spaces. A selection of recent consumer racial profiling incidents presented in Ontario case law, in different media forums, and excerpts of relevant anti-discrimination law will be used to provide audience members with a few practical remedies to address CRP. Participants will learn about the challenges and opportunities for litigating CRP, and the possibilities for law reform.
