When LGBT activists and advocates requested El Salvador’s Supreme Court to determine same-sex marriages as legal, the country’s Congress moved quickly to propose a constitutional amendment bill that bans LGBT marriages. For some years, El Salvador has been home to an important number of members of the LGBT community who are actively, and sometimes violently persecuted and harassed, and, in some cases, even have to leave the country as refugees. The Supreme Court resolution is paramount to defend LGBT rights.
