At an informal survey at 1L Orientation, students listed student loan debt as their #1 concern about law school.

Harvard’s Low-Income Protection Plan (LIPP) makes it possible for HLS grads to work in legal aid, policy advocacy, academia, government, and other public interest fields by providing assistance in paying off debt.

Yet alumni have raised numerous concerns about LIPP, pointing out that LIPP support is often inadequate and leaves graduates — particularly those who are trying to support families — financially strained.

At this panel, several HLS graduates on LIPP will talk about their experiences with the program; ways in which LIPP can be improved; and what HLS students can do to advocate for loan repayment assistance that works for all of us.
