ALL SPIF eligible positions qualify for HLS Pro Bono credit so long as the work is legal work, supervised by a licensed attorney, and performed on behalf of (1) people who cannot afford, in whole or in part, to pay for legal services; (2) the government; (3) a non-profit organization as defined under IRS sections 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4); (4) a law firm working on a pro bono basis; or (5) a foreign equivalent of the above.

The employment of all participants in SPIF will be reported to the HLS Clinical and Pro Bono Office unless you email the SPIF office directly to opt out (SJDs will be automatically exempted). However, not all jobs eligible for HLS Pro Bono credit are eligible for SPIF. Please consult the SPIF guidelines for information regarding eligible positions.

For your convenience, we have worked with the HLS Pro Bono program to ensure all the information they need to process your HLS Pro Bono credit is included on the SPIF forms. Therefore all paperwork should be submitted to the SPIF Office and we will forward copies to the HLS Clinical and Pro Bono Office; there is no need for you to submit duplicate paperwork to the Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs. HLS Pro Bono credit and hours will be processed in early fall.
