Throughout the Law School campus and at each dormitory entry there are centrex phones. These phones allow you to call within the University telephone system, including the University Police.
Changes to Basic Services
The Facilities Office will work with you to order changes to your current telephone service. Most service change requests take approximately five business days to process. From July through September a longer period of time is required due to the number of requests being made.
Changes to your service may include:
- You wish to add appearances of another user’s number
- You would like to change appearances of another number from ringing to non-ringing
- You want to restrict dialing of your number to within Harvard, within Massachusetts, or within the U.S.

When making a request you will need to contact the Facilities Office at 617-495-5521.
Conference calls involving more than three parties should be booked through the Harvard operators at 495-5575. Twenty-four hours notice is preferable but they will be happy to set up your conference call with less notice.
The office of Media Services owns a Polycom Speakerphone which is very convenient for large parties listening to a conference call. Please call 495-4840 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org, to book the phone set and to ensure that you have booked a conference room or classroom with an active Analog telephone line.
Jack Installations – New
New jack installations are coordinated by UIS and an outside contracted vendor.
Harvard Law School’s standard jack installation is a Voice/Data/Data jack. This jack type allows for one telephone line and two computers to be plugged in. They are available in different combinations of voice and data ports. Prices vary according to the combination chosen.
If you wish to terminate service on a telephone, fax or modem line, you will need to contact the Facilities Office at 617-495-5521.
To move your telephone line to another location you will need to contact the Facilities Office at 617-495-5521.

Please note all line moves require the coordination of both UIS and Verizon.
Users who are having telephone line problems must report them directly to the UIS Telephone Repair office at 495-4900. Be prepared to provide the phone number that is not working, the jack number, the model type of the phone set, and the physical location of the telephone set. The Telephone Repair staff will also ask various other questions in an attempt to diagnose the problem.
If a telephone set is replaced with new equipment as a result of being faulty, there is no charge; replacement costs are covered under your rental agreement with UIS.
