This seminar will address judging in general, with a special emphasis on women and judging. We will consider the literature on judging, from judicial philosophers, on the one hand, to social scientists, on the other. We will examine the forces that shape judicial decisionmaking, both intrinsic and extrinsic to the judiciary. And we will consider the impact of diversity, particularly on the federal bench. We will have a number of guest speakers, former and present judges, and academics.

Enrollment in this course requires the instructor's permission.
