Notice of Non-Discrimination

HLS Students, Staff and Faculty

Harvard has instituted a new University-wide Title IX policy, the University Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment Policy, which is effective at the start of the 2014-2015 academic year. This policy applies to all members of the Harvard community.

HLS Students and Faculty

HLS has amended its Guidelines Related to Sexual Harassment on an interim basis to align them with the new University policy. The Interim Harvard Law School Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures are subject to change upon faculty review.

HLS Students

The Law School’s Interim Policy and Procedures include procedures for disciplinary proceedings against students who violate the University Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment Policy. However, separate University procedures now govern the investigation and determination of whether a violation of the University policy has occurred. Because in cases of alleged sexual harassment by a student, the Law School’s disciplinary procedures incorporate the University’s investigative procedures, students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the University’s Procedures. These procedures are effective for the start of the 2014-15 academic year.

The following procedures for complaints against students have been adopted by the HLS faculty, and have been submitted to the U.S. Department of Education for review. They will be implemented as soon as practicable. A notice will be distributed to students when they are implemented: HLS Sexual Harassment Resources and Procedures for Students.

HLS Staff

The new university-wide Sexual/Gender-Based Harassment Complaint Procedures Against Staff are now effective. For complaints against staff only, these procedures supersede the Interim Harvard Law School Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures.
